My hero and service dog inspiration was Sister Pauline Quinn. Ironically years before I happened to meet her at a program I worked for. Unfortunately Sister Pauline passed away in 2020. With her passing I am just not really involved in the service dog world much nor do I plan to be in the future. RIP Sister, we really miss you down here.
I am now getting multiple messages weekly asking about the Yakutian Laika as a service dog. To the point that I have debated on removing this page entirely from my website. In general, we do not recommend the Yakutian Laika as a service dog. They are a wonderful breed but they are soft tempered. It's not a matter of CAN they do it, it is a matter of that most of them would not be happy doing it. I do have a Yakutian Laika service dog for my balance issues that come and go from a horse related spinal injury. However, she is a larger female and is different in temperament than the majority of the dogs. Which is also taken into account when she is bred as we are not trying to breed away from the correct temperament or size of the Yakutian Laika.
I do believe that for certain purposes a well bred Siberian Husky with handler focus can make a great service dog for particular tasks and handlers. We do not do service dog training or place high priced puppies for service dogs. We are willing to discuss with you what Siberian Huskies may be a good fit for you if that is what you are looking for. I worked at an Assistance Dogs International accredited program as the kennel manager for several years and helped in selecting program puppies.
Service Dogs
“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?” –Martin Luther King Jr.
(We no longer own or breed Carolina Dogs)
We got involved in the Carolina Dog because my service dog experience led me to looking for a breed that I could place dogs and puppies as service dog potential and that I would also enjoy showing. When I looked into the Carolina Dog they had service dog potential and the breed had a serious need for breeders to get involved. While we had great success with owner trainers we placed dogs with we did find the breed was not a great match for the programs we wanted to work with as they didn't adjust as well to handler changes.
These are some of the dogs we have placed as service dogs.

Dash
Dash
Miss Chief X Atlas
What Dash's handler has to say about her....
"Dash is a Service Dog in training for her handler. She suffers from an unknown seizure disorder, anxiety and panic disorders, hypoglycemia, and several other chronic illnesses. Dash has already begun task work to help in her independence. Thanks to NorthStar Carolina Dogs she is getting more and more independence from Dash."
Pixie
Pixie
Fawn X Jesse
Pixie was the sweetest little puppy ijn her litter. She also sadly had a tail injury due to rough play with a littermate. We donated Pixie to a service dog program where she quickly became a top prospect and is now a wonderful change to her handler's life.
Orion
Int SR CH-S,UKC GRCH NorthStar Orion Light NTD
Harlee X Atlas
Orion is a wonderful boy who has matured to be a little large for a Carolina Dog. He has a wonderful temperament and has done so much with us.
Orion is being placed in a service dog program for training and then to be matched with a disabled person who needs him most.
We miss this big smiling boy, but he is going to love his new journey and in the end will be able to really change the life some a deserving person.
Rey and siblings
Rey
Rey and her entire litter were donated to a service dog program as pups. It was chosen that Rey would go to a specific handler once that person was able to make room for her. Because of this I also got the joy to show Rey and still know her well.
Kennedy
Kennedy
He was my pick male from his litter and a hopeful show dog. Unfortunately it became clear his ears were not going to stand and we personally do not agree with taping or any other un-natural alteration on the Carolina Dog as it is a natural breed. So we found him the perfect home.
Kennedy is now a fully trained service dog to a wonderful veteran and we couldn't be happier with the end results for her and for him.

Diesel
Diesel
Harlee X Josey
Diesel is a service dog for Preston. What makes us most proud of Diesel is that he detects Preston's seizures. Diesel also helps Preston with other issues related to growing up with autism. We are very proud of Diesel and think Preston picked the perfect puppy for himself.
Simba, another NorthStar Carolina Dog also now lives with Preston and his family. Simba is also alerting and comforting Preston during his seizures as well.
Simba
Simba
Zelda X Jesse
Preston's other best friend, Simba.
Preston's smile and love for these dogs says it all.
Batman
Batman
Zelda X Jessie
Batman is now a service dog in training.
Hero
Hero
"Multi-CH NorthStar's American Sniper BCAT CGCA CGCU TKN"
Bunny X Logan
Hero was unfortunately taken way too young, but in his short years he was an amazing service dog. He was the first featured dog for AKC of the Carolina Dog breed. He was an amazing athlete and a professional model. Hero was a truly special dog and loved by so many. He does leave behind a legacy of one litter of beautiful puppies for his owner.

And I hear them saying,
"You'll never change things
And no matter what you do
It's still the same thing"
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so, this world will know
That it will not change me.
